Our BITES Bento was a lunchbox we created for a classmate who struggled to accurately calculate carbs in his lunches.  He wound up missing out on class parties, food trucks, and feeling pretty crummy sometimes.

This was our first time writing an app! Thankfully MIT App Inventor uses a block code similar to SCRATCH, so we were able to figure it out pretty easily.  This app pairs with the hardware and a food database to make calculating carbs easy!

We were selected as third place winners and we received the Materializig Innovations Scholarship to help us learn about the next steps to develop our prototype into a marketable product.

Carolina Biological Young Innovator Program

I first became a Young Innovator in 2022, and I continue to support the program!

It was so fun getting to present at the NSTA Conference in Houston!  I also got to represent the Carolina Young Innovators program and they even made a trading card out of me and my inventions.

Since 2022, I've worked with Squaffles the Squid and Carolina Biological at the National Conference in Philadelphia (2025) and Denver (2024).

SWENext Influencer

I am a 2023/2024 SWENext Influencer!

The Society of Women Engineers has a program for high school girls called SWE Next.  I am working this year to set up my own SWENext club at my local high school.  I've also been able to take over their instagram, participate in a webinar to help mentor and encourage other girls, and participate in several other events throughout the year.

Angela Award

2022 NSTA Angela Award Winner

Established in honor of Dr. Gerry Wheeler, for his outstanding dedication to NSTA and lifelong commitment to science education and towards encouraging girls to consider careers in STEM.  The award recognizes one female student in grades 5-8 who has shown excellence of involvement and/or has strong connections to science; evidence of sustained accomplishments or progress/interest in science; and evidence that the student's interest in science has impacted others.

I was lucky enough to get to go to Houston, TX and participate in the NSTA conference.  I helped at the Carolina Biological Booth as one of their Young Innovators, I co-presented at Meet-me-in-the-Middle and helped with the Exploravision competition presentation as well.
